Use case · Students

A task manager for students with long, multi-stage work.

An essay, an exam, a dissertation: none of them is one task. F4Goals lets you break each into stages and see, in percent, how much of it you have actually done.

Study work is long, and long work is invisible

A to-do list of “essay” and “revise for chemistry” gives no sense of progress until the day it is over, and it makes the work feel bigger than it is. Students who feel behind often have done a great deal; the list just cannot show it.
Breaking a piece of coursework into stages and marking how far through each you are turns a vague worry into a number you can see move.

How students use F4Goals

Create a project per course, per module or per big assignment, and put the real stages inside it.
One project per course, or one per large piece of work such as a dissertation.
Break an essay into research, outline, drafting, editing and referencing, then break drafting into sections.
Slide a section to 40% when you have a rough draft, so you remember it is not finished.
Revision: one task per topic, each at the percentage you feel you have covered it.
Use the daily streak and seven-day chart as a gentle nudge to do a little every day.

Revision with percentages

Revision is the clearest case for partial progress. Put every topic on the syllabus in as a task, then slide each one as you go over it. After a week the Projects screen shows a single percentage for the exam, and you can see which topics are still near zero.
It is more honest than ticking topics off. You can mark a topic at 30% after one pass and bring it up on the next.

Limits to know about

F4Goals has no due dates, reminders, calendar or shared boards, so it will not nag you before a deadline and it is not a group-project tool. Keep your timetable and deadlines in a calendar, and use F4Goals to track how much of the work is done.

Free, with no card

F4Goals is free to use on the web and on Android, with no trial period, so it costs a student nothing.
